Why I created RISE Business Academy

Hi, I’m Monica Shah, founder and President of Revenue Breakthrough, a million dollar business that trains entrepreneurs in the fundamentals of doubling, tripling, even 10x their income.

I live in Brooklyn, New York. My business has multiple revenue streams, and a whole team running our operations. Each year, we launch multiple programs and courses, and – in a normal, non-pandemic year – I host a a 3-day live event for 200 entrepreneurs, a cross-country tour, and a number of smaller in-person events. I also take at least 2 vacations every year where I step away from my business completely.

I don’t say this to brag. I do want you to know how I got here – and where I started.

When I started my business years ago, I made a lot of mistakes. I wasted a lot of time on things that didn’t matter – and didn’t get me clients.

Even though I had an MBA from a top business school (the Kellogg School of Management), when it came to making money in my own business, I was clueless.

I was going about making money in business 100% backwards.

Instead of learning what I needed to do to get clients and make money, I did things like walk dogs and rent out my apartment to cover my bills.

I heard that I needed to “invest in my business”… so I spent $15,000 on an online marketing program. I bought a $7,000 book-writing program. I thought that if I just learned enough, I could make my business work.

What I didn’t understand was that I was buying pieces of the business puzzle.

The trouble is, I didn’t know how to put all those separate pieces together.

Instead, I ended up $25,000 in debt, and crushed when the projects I’d invested my hard-earned money on – not to mention hours of work and my blood, sweat and tears – didn’t work.

I never finished that book (I do have a different one finished today). Four people bought my online group program – and then 2 of them backed out.

As painful as it was to fail, I learned an important lesson: I didn’t need more training in super-specific tactics that wouldn’t ever work for a beginner. I needed a training that showed me the “big picture” for how to get clients and make more money. The foundations of winning in business.

I looked high and low for that training. But it didn’t exist!

Long story short, I committed to doing whatever it took to make my business generate the revenue I wanted. I threw myself into studying everything I could get my hands on.

And I hired a coach to show me how all the little tactics fit together.

This is why I created RISE Business Academy. It’s the Academy I wish I had when I was figuring out how to make my business work.
