Putting More Cash In Your Pockets
How do you put more cash in your pockets? Focus on those activities that generate revenue.
What is a revenue-generating activity? For most of us, that would include any activity that involves finding and signing new clients. Unfortunately, things like calling leads, setting up workshops, and following up – can fall to the end of our to-do lists.
Usually it’s because when we start these tasks, a pit of discomfort grows in out stomachs and we suddenly just don’t feel well. And the next thing we know, we are doing dishes, writing web copy, changing the colors on our website – anything but finishing that one task that would make us the most money. I always seem to be in the best shape when I am trying to push beyond my comfort zone – namely because I will go and workout as an excuse to not have to do those tasks that make me uncomfortable!
That discomfort is called fear. Fear is totally normal in any situation that is out of our “comfort zone” or situations in which we don’t feel safe. At one point in our history as humans, that fear kept us from being eaten alive by a bear or tiger.
As entrepreneurs, we often feel fear – because we are often out of our comfort zone – learning new things every day and doing things we just don’t have expertise in. And when you are doing something like – following up with a client – it is easy for you body to associate that task with the worst possible outcome – rejection and embarrassment.
Try this – associate the small tasks of your day – like following up – with the positive outcomes you are working towards. Think of what it would be like to land a new client – to make the income that you desire and to be able to offer that person your valuable services.
It might be a little work at first to associate every task of your day with your bigger goals. But with some practice, it becomes easier.
And over time, you’ll no longer procrastinate the important stuff and you’ll be achieving your goals.
