Part 3: How to Get More Clients – How to Stop Being Afraid of Being Seen
I’m so enjoying this series on how to get more clients – your feedback has been awesome! In case you missed it, here’s the first two parts:
Part 1: How To Get More Clients – The 3 F Strategy
Part 2: How to Get More Clients – Inspiring More Clients To Say “Yes”
So many of my clients come to me wanting to know how to get more clients – but they want to hide behind their computers while they are doing it!
Does this sound familiar?
You are posting on social media.
You write newsletters every now and then.
Maybe every 60 days or so you go to a networking event.
But you still don’t have enough clients. Or it seems like you are either in feast or famine – one month there’s a lot of clients and the next, there’s not enough.
I totally get it. In the first part of this series – I talked about connecting with friends, family and followers to get more clients. In the second part of this series – I talked about becoming more consistently visible to get more clients.
But both of these have one thing in common: you have to allow yourself to be seen!
Let’s do a little experiment right now. It will take less than 30 seconds.
Take a deep breath, close your eyes. Imagine yourself on stage. You’re looking out into the audience and there’s hundreds of people in the room. You are sharing your wisdom.
How do you feel? What emotions come up? Write them down.
Now close your eyes again. Imagine yourself in front of a video camera. There’s a director behind the camera telling you to look into the little green light. You start talking about your topic.
How do you feel now? Write your emotions down.
So many of my clients have the following thoughts – see if you resonate:
“What do I know?”
“Who am I to be speaking?”
“What If I’m found out?”
“What will other people say if I’m openly sharing my gifts?”
These are old beliefs that you are carrying – based on old decisions that you made. Somewhere along the lines of… you decided that you weren’t allowed to show up. That you weren’t allowed to play bigger. That you weren’t allowed to be heard.
One of my clients, Pam, tells a story about when she was five. She was dancing in the living room. Her father walked into the room and said, “Stop dancing right now! Good girls don’t do that.” Pam made the decision at that point that she wasn’t allowed to show up freely. Not if she wanted to be a “good girl.”
When I met her she had been hiding behind a desk for 4 years, trying to get her business going. But she had never done a talk, shot a video or been in front of her target market in any real way. She was too afraid that “good girls” didn’t do that. Yet she desperately wanted to stop doing the 3 other jobs she did to cobble together enough money to pay rent.
When we spoke, I gave her permission to let go of the agreement she had made with her father when she was five. And we created a new agreement – “When I show up as me and am fully seen, I empower myself and everyone around me.” Within 3 months she had 6 new clients!
What about you? What are the decisions you made about being seen?
This Week’s Challenge:
Remember that every belief is a decision. And you can decide to make a different decision immediately. Take a moment, think back to when you decided that you weren’t allowed to really show up. Perhaps someone said you weren’t good enough. Perhaps it just doesn’t feel safe. Breathe deep. Make a different decision right now. It only takes 7 days for a new groove to start forming in your brain. So you can start having different thoughts. Ones that are supportive to getting you out there and visible.
Go for it! I for one really would like to see you out there – sharing your brilliant wisdom!
