Finding Balance With the Daily Sandwich

Our Big Comeback event is right around the corner – if you haven’t checked it out yet, go ahead and click that link!

During this event, we’re going to be creating a 14-step Certified Revenue Breakthrough Plan to make 2022 your best year yet.

Now, step 13 of the Certified Revenue Breakthrough Plan is to create a daily plan. When we get to this step, so many of my clients – like most entrepreneurs – complain that they work too much, or that they work all the time without taking breaks.

So I’d like to share a very simple method that I really love using to craft my days.

I call this the daily sandwich.

For the beginning of your day, you plan something that you love doing – that you wake up and feel excited to do.

For example, I love waking up and going for an hour-long walk. Sometimes I listen to a podcast or an audiobook, and sometimes I just walk in silence, but it’s a really nice opportunity to zone out and enjoy the weather and the peace around me.

Sometimes, after my walk, I’ll meditate in the park, or I’ll meditate at home before I start my work. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the day, and it prepares me to get to work.

And that work is the middle of your daily sandwich – the part of your day where you’re actually doing the hard stuff.

You’re making the calls you don’t want to be making, making decisions you’ve been avoiding, doing admin work that maybe you don’t always love. It’s not easy, but by five, six, or seven o’clock, you get to the end of the day – to the other side of your daily sandwich.

On this side of the day, you have something delightful planned. Maybe you go for a walk, have a lovely dinner with your partner, or do art journaling or crafting.

Now, I know some of you are thinking, Monica. At the end of my day, I have to take care of family members, feed my kids, and get everyone bathed. And I get that – for some of you, the ends of your days are filled with other obligations.

And if that is you, I would recommend that you actually end your day earlier. I have a client who has five kids who get home at five o’clock. So she ends her days at 3:45 so that she has time to organize her desk and make her plan for the next day.

And then, at four o’clock, she takes a bath – she gives herself that nice, relaxing period before she has to go take care of her family.

Even ending your day just a little bit sooner and taking 30 minutes to yourself is well worth it – it feels really nice to give yourself something to look forward to.

If you’re someone who’s super busy with family in the morning and the evening, you might want to start your work day a little bit later.

Because if you know that you have some sweetness in the morning and some joy in the evening, you’re going to be able to do so much more during the meat of the day.

So take a few moments to think: what is something that you love doing in the morning, and what is something that you love doing in the evening?

This week, try practicing the daily sandwich, and don’t forget to go check out our Big Comeback event. We’re going to be building you a 14-step Certified Revenue Breakthrough Plan that will make the next year as fulfilling as your morning you-time.
