Business Model Types & Shifts: The month I made $85K while on bedrest
In 2021, I had major abdominal surgery.
The kind that makes you stop whether you want to or not.
No laptop. No coaching calls. No “just one more thing” on the to-do list.
And for the first time in a long time, I was actually still.
Now here’s the wild part. While I was resting, my business brought in $85,000 one month and $91,000 the next.
Not because I was magically manifesting checks from the couch (although wouldn’t that be nice), but because I had designed a business model that could keep running even when I couldn’t.
At that time, I was using what I call the Event Model. It let me take two months to recover, then come back and host one big event that filled my programs and created major cash flow.
Fast forward to this year.
My dad was in hospice, and then my father-in-law passed away (yes, I’ve been “life-ing” this year, big time).
It was a season of grief, travel, and needing more space than my usual schedule allowed.
So I shifted again, this time into what I call the Launch Business Model that gave me the flexibility and structure I needed.
That’s the thing about business models.
When you choose the right one, and know how to pivot between models – you create freedom.
The right business model allows you to keep earning even when life knocks you sideways.
The right business model makes it possible to rest, pivot, or slow down without everything falling apart.
And finally, the right business model helps you stay relevant when the market shifts, because let’s face it, it always does.
Over the years, I’ve identified five main business models that take entrepreneurs from six to seven figures: Event Model, Launch Model, Mini-Me Model, Product Model, & Sales-Center Model.
Here’s what I’ve learned after coaching thousands of entrepreneurs:
Most people hit a wall not because they’re lazy or disorganized. It’s because they’ve outgrown their business model and don’t even know it.
If you’re feeling like you’re working harder but not getting ahead or you keep hitting the same plateau.
Or if you’re getting clients. You’re making sales. You’re even hitting $10K or $20K+ months.
And yet, there’s no breathing room. You’re working more, not less. You’re trying to grow, but every new client or offer seems to add more work instead of more revenue.
It might just be time for a business model pivot.
I’ll be breaking down four of these business models in my free Million Dollar Business Models Masterclass so you can see which one best fits your goals, your learning style, and your lifestyle right now (and yes there’s a recording!).
