Happy New Year from Mumbai!

Happy New Year to you!

Here’s a photo of Jai and I in front of one of the beautiful Christmas-lit churches in Mumbai.

The Christmas spirit is alive and well here even though the majority of Indians don’t celebrate Christmas in a traditional way.

But now that Christmas is over – it makes me wonder – how do we keep the spirit of joy alive all year round?

How do you avoid going into a place of overwhelm and chaos as we start into the New Year?

How do you make this year different?

These are questions we all struggle with.  It’s so easy to get overwhelmed once the pace of January picks up.

Here are some suggestions that will make it easier for you to keep the joy present in everything you do this year.  I thought I’d give the ideas now while you still have time before January 1st to start to create them.

  1. Get clear about your WHY. Why are you in business? What is your mission? What do you want to create with the money you make? Create a collage, a mission statement or something in between. Post it somewhere that you see it every day. I frame mine and put it on my door each year. It shows my goals, my desires and trips, and what I want to create for the year. I look at it every single day.
  2. Find your annual words. Find three words that will inspire you this year. Words like: community, focus, delegate, consistency, follow-up. What are three areas that you would like to improve? Write all three words somewhere that you see every day. This will help you remember your why. Again, you can write them, draw them, collage them – it’s totally up to you.
  3. Create your fabulous five. Your fabulous five are 5 entrepreneurs that are on speed dial who are willing to support you at any time. These are folks that are in the trenches of building their own businesses as well – so they totally get how to celebrate and commiserate with you. Make sure that they know your why, your plan and your words for the year. Now make sure you lean on them all year long (and them on you) whenever you start to feel the joy leaving your business for too long. Again, keep their names and numbers written on a board somewhere so that you remember to ask for help when you need it.

When you put all of these things on one wall – you’ve got the beginnings of an inspiration station – a station that will remind you to keep the joy alive all year round.

Here’s to an amazing 2015!

With much love,
Monica

PS:  I thought this was very funny and awesome. Here’s a picture of all the books that were in the drawer at our hotel. There’s a Bhagavad Gita, The Book of Mormon, Teachings of the Buddha, The Holy Bible and The Book of Prayer. Talk about inclusivity – gotta love that! They say that India is the land of spirituality – I’d say this pretty much proves that.
