Talking Yourself Off the Ledge – Four Statements That Make All the Difference

This year has been a wild ride of ups and downs.   It has been one of the greatest years of learning of my life.

There were some moments when I cried tears of gratitude about how lucky I am to have such amazing clients and to be doing what I was put here on the planet to do.

There were also other moments when I stood at the edge of the cliff and thought, “Oh no.  This isn’t going to work.”

Six weeks before my 3-day event, Money 2.0 (which occurred in June), I developed a  a major sinus infection.  Now I’ve got sinus polyps that I’ve been dealing with for three years and have been on and off medication.  The doctors weren’t happy about giving me more medication to deal with the infection (don’t worry, I’m getting surgery in November).  So I had to wait until the week before the event to start taking anything to feel better.  It was awful.  It literally felt like I was operating at 50% capacity during a time when I needed to operate at 110%.

Thankfully, I had a great support team, an event planning team and lots of great people in my life to make sure that I was able to get everything done.   And thankfully, the medication kicked in right when I needed it, and I was able to be joyfully healthy throughout the 3 days.

I’ve learned a lot from that experience.  And that was just one of the moments this year when I was ready to throw in the towel! I’ve learned from all of them.

I’ve learned how to surrender and let go of trying to get everything done by myself, and most importantly to let go of perfection.

There are four phrases that keep me going at all times.  I find myself repeating them to myself in times of need:

1. I’m doing the best I can right now with all the information I have at present.

2. Everything is going to be fine.  It will all get done.  I have plenty of time.

3. Who else can I delegate this task to TODAY? (THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE)

4. If I am going to do this task, focus on the task at hand and don’t worry about the long list.  Breathe.

For that fourth one, sometimes I have to pull out the timer on my i-phone and put it on to keep focus on the task at hand.  It helps.

I know many of you struggle with life experiences that can “get in the way” of you operating at 100%.  Everything from a young child to a sick parent can cause you to lose focus or energy for your business – even if you love what you do.

When you get to those moments in your life, know that there is always a lesson, always a way to still have everything work out.

Use the phrases above to help yourself from walking off that metaphorical cliff.  Breathe.  It’s all going to be all right.
