The Roots of Your Money Issues (And How to Resolve Them)

I’m so excited because, two weeks from today – July 8th, I am leading our Women & Money event! I think this event is so important because there are so many unique and under-discussed aspects of being a woman, generating money, money issues, and being an entrepreneur. It’s an unparalleled amount of responsibility to be handling all at once.

One of the things that we’ll be discussing at the Women & Money Event is the connection between your current money behaviors and what your relationship with money was like as a child.

One of my clients, Lendy, was just talking to me about this in a phone conversation.

And she said, “Monica, my parents never talked about money. The money just seemed to appear when I needed it and when I wanted it. And so I don’t really understand why I struggle with money now, because it wasn’t like I grew up with a lack of money or having any desperation or need for it.”

So I asked her further about that. I said, “Well, how does it make you feel now to not have enough money from your business and to struggle with it?”

She said, “It just makes me angry, because I feel like money should be here for me, because it was always there when I was little.”

So I said, “That is your money voice from when you were growing up. You’re angry at money because, subconsciously, you feel like it should be there—because it always was there when you were growing up.

But what you don’t understand is that you are the cause and money is the effect. It’s what you do or don’t do that will or will not generate money

I know that struggling with money makes you angry and makes you feel like you don’t understand money. But we need to shift that voice and that anger in you—into understanding that you are powerful and you can create money. And it is your energy that creates the money that is coming in.”

In that moment, I could see her eyes light up, because she finally understood.

She had been feeling powerless. Telling herself that the money just wasn’t choosing her and there was nothing she could do about it. She just wasn’t the chosen one.

And I see that with so many of you whom I speak with—this feeling that money just didn’t choose you, and that you can’t generate it.

You’re just not good with money. You don’t like asking for it. You see people out there who are making money and you think to yourself, Oh, they can do that. But I can’t.

If you’re feeling that way, I want to encourage you to really rethink those voices in your head and choose to let them go. I want you to decide that you are the cause, and that money is the effect.

You have an infinite ability to create and make money.

And if it has to start with you learning more about how to make money, great. Start there. But know that if you’re letting these passive thoughts about money invade your thinking, it’s time to make a mental shift.

If you want to learn more about how you can make that shift, explore the other beliefs that may be getting in the way of you making money, and learn how to create healthier ones, please come join us at the Women & Money Event.

We still have a few open spots left. You can register here

And remember—you have the money power.
