The truth about making over $500,000
Let’s be honest. Here is the truth.
When most people think about running a $500,000+ business, they picture freedom, champagne, and beautifully color-coded calendars.
Here’s what they don’t picture:
- The overwhelm.
- The hiring mistakes.
- The moment you realize your once-tidy systems are now a tangled mess of Google Docs, old links, and team Slack threads that make no sense.
The truth is, hitting 7 figures doesn’t automatically make life easier.
In fact, it can make the cracks in your foundation a lot more visible. But only if you build it in a way that is complex, has lots of moving parts, and doesn’t have a clear model that works.
I was at an event recently where a woman had just crossed $1.2 million in her business. We all celebrated her on stage. She was glowing, beaming, and clearly proud of what she’d built.
A little later, I walked into one of the back rooms and found her crying.
She looked at me and said, “Monica, I need your help. Now that I finally have time to look at my business, I see all the holes in it. All the places where I don’t have systems. All the things we’ve done wrong. And I’m scared we’re running a sinking ship.”
That’s the thing about scaling that no one tells you.
Growth can require more of you. But it doesn’t have to!
I’ve coached hundreds of women who have crossed six and multiple six figures, and the biggest misconception I see is this:
- They think scaling means adding more.
- More offers. More clients. More marketing. More everything.
But true scaling happens peacefully when you simplify.
And add systems that let you work less, not just earn more.

Because what got you here won’t get you there. And that’s not a bad thing.
