The Unseen Work You Forget You’ve Done This Year

Tomorrow is Christmas and no matter what you celebrate, it feels like the whole world is finally slowing down.
If you are anything like the rest of us entrepreneurs, you have been crawling toward these two weeks off since September.
I see you.
I honor your countdown calendar. I honor the way you have been whispering to yourself just get me to December and then I can breathe.
You deserve this break.
You deserve this rest.
You deserve a giant gold star stuck right on your forehead and possibly on your laptop too, because let’s be honest, she carried a lot of emotional weight this year.
But before you drift into holiday mode and melt into your couch, I want to remind you of something important.
There is so much work you did this year that no one saw. And because no one saw it, you probably forgot it even counted.
Let me name a few things for you.
The hard decisions you made alone.
The risks you took when you felt nervous.
The mornings you showed up even though you were tired, cranky, or questioning all your life choices.
The emails you wrote when your brain felt like mashed potatoes.
The webinars you taught even when technology behaved like it had a personal vendetta against you.
The one Instagram post you filmed fifteen times before you finally said fine this is the best we are getting today.
All of that counts.
It counts more than the numbers on your Stripe dashboard.
It counts more than the posts that went viral or the ones your mom commented on with a random heart emoji.
It counts because it came from commitment.
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart.
It is not easy to pick yourself up when something flops.
It is not easy to motivate yourself when no one is watching.
It is not easy to choose this path over and over again when family asks things like, “so what do you actually do?” (for the 14th time).
And yet you did it.
Over and over again.
All year long.
So on this day.
This cozy, sparkly, peppermint scented day before Christmas.
I want you to give yourself a gift.
The gift of love.
The gift of appreciation.
The gift of knowing you have done enough.
More than enough.
I see you, my entrepreneur friend.
You are special.
You are important.
You have changed the world, one person at a time.
And you deserve every last cookie on that plate.😜
