Finding That Glow…

I remember when I first started my business. I wasn’t happy most of the time. Because I didn’t know what to do. And even when I did know what to do, I second-guessed myself.

I took this picture the other day and noticed how happy I looked in it — truly happy. And last week a client who signed up for our program said, “Monica, you are glowing. I want some of that.”

I was honored by her noticing.

When I look at the why behind it, I’d love to say it’s because I now know what to do. Or because I trust myself completely. While I trust myself so much more now, a full 10 years after starting my business, everything is still a work in progress.

But one of the things I do know is that I don’t have to do anything alone. I’ve learned to ask for help for anything that I’m struggling with. That hasn’t been an easy lesson as I’m naturally more of the quiet type.

But it has made the biggest difference to admit that asking for and receiving help — and even — paying for it — is OK. And to admit that I’ve paid for help that hasn’t been helpful as well. And that’s OK too. I’m allowed to keep looking and keep asking until I find the right people. It’s OK to make mistakes, even with money.

With the year that we’ve had — so many of us have had many moments alone (even when we are surrounded by people). Alone with kids at home. Alone with aging parents. Alone with the fear of the unknown. Alone with the fear of not getting the vaccine or the fear of the after-effects. It’s been a whirlwind.

If you’re reading this and feeling alone, or scared, or confused, know that you don’t have to do it yourself — whatever it is. Whether it’s running a birthday party (even virtually) or figuring out how to craft an email. It’s OK to call a friend or a neighbor, to ask for some support.

Because we all need a little help to find that glow sometimes.
