Fighting Burnout with Mini Vacations

Are you fighting burnout? At this point in the year, it can start to feel like we’ve been working nonstop since January – and many of us have!

If you’re already feeling exhausted, I want to give you a tip that may help you find some peace of mind between now and the next time you really get a break.

As entrepreneurs, we typically take vacations in the summer. Maybe you take a short vacation in the fall and a couple weeks off during the winter holidays, but it often doesn’t feel like enough time off.

Especially if you’re somebody who does a lot of fulfillment work – going nonstop Monday through Friday or even on weekends – one or two days off a week is just not enough.

One strategy that has helped many of my clients in this situation is to schedule three- or four-day weekends throughout the quarter.

For example, I have a client who plans a three- or four-day mini vacation every 60 days.

Her business is really busy, which means she’s often working nonstop from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. And she loves it! It’s not that she doesn’t like her business – it’s just that the pace of her work means she has to be “on” a LOT of the time.

So every 60 days, she takes Friday and/or Monday off and goes away. She goes camping, flies to a different city, or rents an AirBnB within driving distance. For the entirety of those three or four days, she unplugs completely – no computer work, no emails, nothing – and just chills out.

She finds that it’s an amazing way to recover and relax, and it gives her something to look forward to in the super busy weeks between vacations.

If this is resonating with you – if you’re an entrepreneur who’s feeling super burnt out or wondering how you’re going to make it to that next vacation – I invite you to consider this approach.

Grab your calendar – and pencil in three- or four-day weekends every 60 days between now and the end of the year.

Try it and see how you feel – it may be the difference between burning out and thriving9+ this year.
