Permission

It was a particularly warm August morning. I was at my 7AM yoga/barre class, and I was full of frustration. I was prepping like crazy for our upcoming live event and for some reason I couldn’t seem to let it all go and just relax.

As I struggled to do my leg lifts – I was thinking about all the details of the event – over and over again.

So I stopped in the moment and asked the Universe, “What the he** is going on here?”

And the answer I got was quite profound.

“You have to give yourself permission to rest no matter what.
You can’t wait until all the details of the event are figured out.
You can’t wait until the last 15 seats are filled.
You can’t wait until every slide is perfect.
You have to find peace, now.”

And suddenly it all became clear. I was waiting for permission. Permission to rest, permission to zone out, permission to play. I was following some rule that I couldn’t get that permission until everything was finished.

Problem is when you are running a multi-million dollar small business – it’s never finished.

So many of us were trained to not rest until all the work is done. We have this belief in our blood, in our bones, in our cells.

And then we wonder why we are constantly fighting fatigue, disappointment and overwhelm.

So in that moment – I gave myself the permission I needed. Permission to really let go. To be in gratitude for what was in front of me, instead of what I still needed. To be thankful for my legs, my arms, my breath and the people in that room with me. It definitely took longer to be thankful for the sweat pouring off of me. But in the end, the letting go really helped my worrying mind.

So I ask of you: What do you need permission for?
Permission to rest?
Permission to have unbridled joy?
Permission to sleep in the middle of the day when you are tired?
Permission to take a real lunch break?
Permission to do exactly what you want today?

I give you that permission. Now you just have to give it to yourself. Over and over again. You deserve it.

Close your eyes for a moment. Breathe deeply. Ask your body what it really wants. Now ask your mind. Connect with the space on your forehead between your eyebrows. Now ask your third eye what it really wants.

Now open your eyes.

What are you giving yourself permission to do?
