Starting Over: The Key to Embracing New Beginnings

Starting over in 2024 can be a cause for celebration, but only if you truly let go of what you don’t need from 2023.

This week, I had three conversations with private clients who were full of angst about having to start over this year. January isn’t easy on entrepreneurs.

If the dread is setting in and you’re starting to wonder, How am I going to do it again this year? I feel you.

This season can be a time of new energy and new celebration. But the key is to let go of last year’s grief, anger, and frustration first.

Remember that 2024 does not have to pan out how 2023 did. What you create this year will be new, different, and maybe even better.

Rather than fixating on a future where you have “everything done,” hold space for that newness, that innovation, and that connection to the present moment.

We can fall in love with the climb, the process, the moments of getting there. But this requires us to let go of the notion that we know exactly what “there” looks like.

Remember when you didn’t know what was coming next? When it was fun, new, different? When you didn’t even know if you were going to get there, and on some level, you didn’t care?

That beautiful honeymoon period when you would have done this work for free because you loved it so much? When you were willing to do just about anything to make sure you didn’t have to get a job?

That’s the vitality of initiation: this energy of newness and spontaneity. When turning over a new leaf feels daunting, take a breath and remember that feeling – it’s a good place to return to.
